About Applied Materials in South East Asia
A presence in South East Asia was officially registered as a branch of Applied Materials Asia-Pacific in Singapore in July 1991, but it was not until November 1992 that a regional office was set up with eight employees. By the end of 1993 the staff strength grew to 22 with an installed base of 35 systems.

The branch office was converted to a full subsidiary and renamed Applied Materials South East Asia in September 1995. By July 1996 the local office celebrated the installation of the 100th system. In 1998 a new Technical Training Center (TTC) was added to the local infrastructure to provide equipment training for customers' engineers. Today, AMSEA employs nearly 200 people and has a total system installed base of more than 250, including customers in Malaysia and Australia. In a span of less than 7 years, AMSEA business volume has grown 10 times.

Core Capabilities
Our major strengths lie in the marketing and sales of systems and IBSS (installed base support systems) products, system installation and set-up, and with the acquisition of Consilium Asia, Inc., we also offer manufacturing execution systems (MES) software and services to our customers. In addition, a key capability that AMSEA provides is system hardware training, conducted in our Technical Training Center.

AMSEA's Technical Training Center (TTC), the first of its kind in South East Asia, is equipped with state-of-the-art wafer processing systems. The center is used primarily to train engineers from local semiconductor companies in this region, as well as our own.

There is a special program offering students of local universities and, recently, polytechnics, hands-on training in the operation and maintenance of highly advanced process tools. With constant updates in technical knowledge and actual experience, this collaboration will enhance practical skills on wafer fabrication equipment and complement the students' academic curriculum in semiconductor processing.

Additionally, TTC's facilities are available to support government-sponsored research and development institutes.

AMSEA in the Community
In May 1998, AMSEA donated a Precision 5000® Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) system to Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, in support of the institution's teaching and research programs. Students use the system to study semiconductor manufacturing technology. AMSEA also sponsors university students industrial training programs for university students.

AMSEA has been actively supporting local charities, primarily the National Kidney Foundation, by raising funds through participation in organized events. AMSEA is currently looking into an Adopt-a-Charity program that will allow the company to support a specific charity each year through various fundraising activities.
