Use an escrow service for safety
When you conduct a transaction with a stranger, we recommend you protect yourself by using an escrow service like i-Escrow. These services charge a small fee to ensure that the buyer gets the merchandise and the seller gets paid safely.
Here is how escrow services typically work:
The buyer sends the payment to the escrow service, not the seller. The escrow service verifies the payment, then notifies the seller to ship the item to the buyer. The shipper notifies the escrow service that the item has been delivered. After an inspection period (typically two days), the escrow service releases the payment to the seller unless the buyer notifies the service that there's a problem. In the case of a dispute between buyer and seller, escrow services often specify that it will be settled by arbitration.
If you don't use an escrow service, you need to trust the other party to complete the other end of the transaction. While nearly all auction transactions are completed safely and successfully, there's always an element of risk in dealing with someone you don't know. Using an escrow service greatly reduces that risk.
