BashPrompt Developer Homepage
The change log is here!IF YOUR LOOKING FOR RPM's, I am sorry, but you will have to wait for the NEXT stable release. But, I promise, it shoule be worth the wait, and the wait shouldn't be very long
The purpose of this web page is to keep everyone who is interested in working on the BashPrompt project in contact. I have recieved about half a dozen emails now from people who want to work on it, and I honestly think that most of the ideas are pretty good, and I too have some ideas of my own.
This project isn't technical :-) It's mostly just getting some fun ideas about what to do. I think that writing this web page may be more difficult than actually rewriting the script will be when I get time to play with it. But in the mean time, I invite anyone to take a look at it, and play with it.
Developer Resources
So, to get things started, I figured I would put up a "To Do" list of things that are still needed.
- Theme How-To is what we have to help for now, you can get an idea about how they look by checking the existing ones in ~/.bashprompt/bashthemes/ also. Do not be upset if someday someone decides to put a couple more hours into bashprompt, making it better, and totally changing the format for the themes.
- JOIN THE MAILING LIST! There is a mailing list for bashprompt development again now, using minordomo (yes, minor, not major). To subscribe, send mail to minordomo@current.nu with "subscribe bash" in the subject and no other text in the subjecto or body of the message.
- Ok, there is a ftp server you can use. Check it! When you have something you want to submit, UPLOAD IT. Take the time to check out what others have submitted, and see what thier ideas are too. You should be able to upload to and download from the ftp server "current.nu" in the incoming dir, so just ftp to it, login anonymous, and upload to "/incoming/" name your stuff "MyNick.bashprompt.080398" where MyNick is your nick (to identify you), and the numbers at the end are the date (month, date, year).
- The BASH MANUAL PAGE
- Just prompt stuff only from BASH MANUAL PAGE
- Check out KEEBLER's Cool Bash Stuff
- Tell me if I forgot something!
To Do List:
Revised January 16, 1999
- DONE! Set up a damn mailing list so you people can talk to eachother too, and I don't have to be the middleman.
- Change theme styles to just contain PS1 and PS2 lines, and nothing else, so people can create themes more easily.
- Create a menu interface for changing fonts (possably using dialog? possably using perl? With functality similar to a hack bashmenu-beta.gz I did here. Preferably as a SEPRATE script/application (for reason listed next.
- Write tcsh and zsh versions.
- Make the menu handle all three (bash, tcsh, and zsh) versions!
- Rewrite bashprompt to read a new theme style correctly (change function? Redo completely?)
- Get a "random" option implemented, which will allow each shell open to grab a random "theme" and use it for that shell.
- Test it on all unicies (FreeBSD, Linux, DEC-UNIX, IRIX, etc...)
