Here are some of the concepts used to construct these tools.
The vision:
January 31, 1999 - Mike Warot
Need a parser/environment which allows the importing of data (and subsequent exporting), while parsing everything into objects. All parameters of the object to be visible to the user of the system, perhaps by using the context menu.
There would need to be selectable filtering of the amount of information available to the user, to enhance usability for the casual user.
This document, for example, could be parsed into a set of paragraphs.
An HTML page could be parsed into text blocks, paragraphs, images, hyperlinks, etc.
There would need to be a viewer which could render the data in a number of formats, for example an HTML document could be viewed as a raw collection of objects, and sorted by a number of fields, including list order (the original order from the source material), size, name, URL, etc.
The view could be filtered to only show links, or only images, etc.
One of the views would be a "render" view, to show the document as a web page.
This paradigm could be extended to form the basic software for a number of uses, word processor, spreadsheet, relational database, etc.
If linking between documents can be made consistent, if not seemless, this could be a VERY powerful set of tools for a computer user.
Implementing this set of tools is the mission of BasicSoftware.com
