From the publisher:
Using 4D Version 6.5 gives you the winning advantage
and your applications all new possibilities, power,
and speed. In addition to the 130 new commands, query,
indexing and sequential operations are significantly
faster. The integrated web server produces tighter
HTML on-the-fly and supports HTML frames, multi-
homing, DHTML and more. If you're discovering 4D for
the first time, your timing could not have been
better. Spend a few moments learning about how 4D 6.5
can exceed your expectations by equipping you
with the most significant web application development
technology available.
Start Small and Build Big
With 4th Dimension v6.5 you can start with simple
database structures and use 4D's wizards to create
automatic data entry and report forms. You can use the
built-in querying and reporting tools to generate
sophisticated reports with no coding. As your needs
grow you can add custom methods to automate data
entry, validation and reports. You can add menus and
form objects and procedurally control them to create
completely customized user interfaces.
Improved Performance and Productivity
4D version 6.5's database engine has been highly
optimized to improve performance on queries, sorts,
exports and indexing. No coding is required to take
advantage of these significant performance gains.
Improved Form Wizards
With the 4D Form Wizards you can automatically
create simple or advanced forms. You can then drag and
drop objects onto any form from the Tools palette to
create sophisticated interfaces. Form properties,
events and methods are all managed from the form,
using either contextual menus or the new Properties
List palette. The enhanced picture editor allows you
to import, edit and create picture libraries for use
in forms and buttons. Even animated pictures can be
created quickly and easily.
Improved Debugger
Multiple debugger windows can be open
simultaneously to allow you to step forwards and
backwards through your application code, inspecting
the status of database objects as your code executes.
Debugger windows and their states can be saved.
Improved Web Serving 4D v6.5 incorporates data
management on the web as a standard database task
within the integrated 4D Client/Server architecture.
4D automatically converts its forms to HTML on the
fly, allowing users to connect through their preferred
web browser to create and edit data. You can also add
Java script and Java applets to 4D forms to validate
data entry. 4D's contextual mode allows you complete
control over record navigation and selections while
non-contextual mode allows 4D to behave like any web
server. Plug-in areas, such as 4D Chart, are now
automatically converted to HTML, images or image maps.
Cross-Platform Development & Deployment
You can develop and deploy on both Mac OS and
Windows with full support for both interfaces. Users
can log on as web clients from any operating system.
