Business Summary
Champion International Corporation manufactures paper for business communications, commercial printing and publications. In addition, the Company has significant pulp, plywood, lumber and wood chip manufacturing operations, and owns or controls approximately five million acres of timberlands in the United States. The Company also owns or controls various mineral, oil and gas rights with respect to approximately half of the timberlands owned or controlled by the Company in the United States, and has oil and gas interests in fields located in Florida, Alabama, Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. The Company manufactures uncoated free sheet papers, pulp, coated free sheet papers, coated ground wood papers, linerboard, kraft paper and other products used for a variety of applications ranging from printing paper to catalogs to grocery bags. Through Nationwide Papers, the Company distributes paper, paper products and industrial products.
Financial Summary
CHA is a domestic manufacturer of paper for business communications, commercial printing, publications, and newspapers. CHA also produces pulp, plywood and lumber. For the nine months ended 9/30/99, revenues decreased 9% to $3.92 billion. Net income before extraordinary item increased 92% to $158.3 million. Revenues reflect lower prices for most of the Company's pulp and paper grades. Net income reflects the inclusion of a higher foreign currency transaction gain.
