What is MindSpring SDSL service?
SDSL (Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line) is a technology which provides high speed "always on" Internet access designed for the needs of small to medium sized businesses. Unlike other forms of DSL service, SDSL is symmetric, which means you get the same amount of bandwidth to and from the Internet. SDSL provides speeds up to 12 times faster than an ISDN line and up to 50 times that of an analog modem connection at the fraction of a price of traditional Dedicated access services. MindSpring Biz will offer line speeds from 128 kbps to 1.1 Mbps at different price points to best meet your needs.
How many users will SDSL service support?
Depending on the subscribed speed, MindSpring SDSL service can support anywhere from 3 to 28 concurrent users or 10-50 occasional users. Since MindSpring Biz will offer various speeds of SDSL service, the amount of users on a single SDSL line will depend on the level of service you subscribe to.
How does it compare to other "always on" business Internet services?
MindSpring Biz SDSL is a business class product and is part of our Dedicated Access product family. It is intended to meet the needs of business customers including features such as static IP addresses, DNS services, router configuration and more at a fraction of the cost of traditional dedicated services. Like traditional fractional T-1 and Frame Relay dedicated services, SDSL is available at different speeds, so you can choose a plan that best fits your budget and performance needs. You will also avoid the expensive local loop fees associated with a traditional leased line (T-1 or fractional T-1) or frame relay services and metered rates of ISDN (where applicable).

How does MindSpring Biz SDSL differ from the consumer aDSL service?
Unlike the consumer ADSL service, SDSL offers the same bandwidth (data transfer speed) both upstream and downstream and includes features such as DNS services and static IP addresses for your LAN to run mail servers, host web sites and more. SDSL is not voice/data compatible, so a separate phone line is needed. You can convert an existing analog line to SDSL or a new one can be provisioned upon ordering the service from MindSpring.
How much will it cost?
Pricing has not been determined at this time, but will be announced prior to launch. If you submit a qualification request, you will be notified by email as these details become available.
What Equipment will I need?
SDSL will require a MindSpring certified SDSL router. The router will be sold with the service.
Does it work over my existing phone line?
SDSL requires an available phone line, and cannot be shared with voice or fax machines. If you have an extra existing phone line that is NOT being used for voice, it can be provisioned for SDSL service.
