Paragraph approaches the short form — tales of around 200 words — as a homeopathic remedy for media overload. Homeopathy, you’ll recall, is a medical therapy based on the “law of similars.” Cure comes through small doses of the very thing that ails you. So we’re an antidote; the world is a glut of disparate information — sound bites and photo ops and MTV — which titillate us and distract us and probably corrupt us. Paragraph magazine is filled with “short takes of ordered sensibility.” Our contributors are solid, sometimes offbeat writers contributing to a traditional American literature, and they provide small correctives — doses — to that which threatens to engulf the entire culture.

We print 400 copies and distribute them ourselves. All of our issues feature the simple paragraphus sign; only the color of the cover changes. We print the cover on our own letterpress, a Vandercook 317. The magazine is available at selected literary bookstores coast to coast. The remainder of our sales come from subscriptions, three issues for ten bucks.
