This site uses a consistent navigation structure that organizes our pages into a hierarchy. The major sections of the site are identified by the row of tabs along the top, labeled "Getting Started", "Tcl Advocacy", and so on.

Each section has a 2nd-level menu that appears below the main tabs once you click on a tab. If you cannot see this, check the warning about color settings. Some areas are also divided into a third level of structure that appears above the thin yellow line in the top section of the page.

Overview Of Sections

Color Settings OK!
Color Settings Wrong!
Warning You should see a row of text labels below the main tabs. These are in white lettering against a blue background. Netscape has a preference setting that defeats this scheme, leaving the text white-on-white. In Netscape, the setting is under Edit->Preferences->Colors. and is called "Always use my colors, overriding document". You'll want to disable that to use this site.

Xchange Community

The community site section of our web site is designed to foster communication and growth within the Tcl Development Community. The foundation of this system is built on the Arsdigita Community System software. This system provides users with a number of added value services such as:
  • Bug Database: Browse our online database of bugs and fixes to various products. At this point the system is read only but shortly users will be able to directly contribute to the tracking system.
  • Bulletin Boards and Discussion Forums: here you will find a variety of discussion topics to which you can contribute of view. Can't find a topic of interest? Start your own!
  • News and Events : this section contains a listing of upcoming events. It also allows you to add comments to existing events or to post your own events.
  • Edit Your personal Info And Preferences: This is your page. You can update registration info, email alerts, etc. Check it out.

In order to get access you all the features of the communit, you need to first login. You can browse the Discussion Forums and the News Items without logging in but in order to contribute to these features you have to be a registered member of the community and logged in. Don't worry, you have full control of the sort of email you receive.

This community system is pretty intuitive. we ecourage you to cruise through it and get familiar with it. As time goes on we will be adding lots of cool features. If you encounter and problems with the site, please contact the webmaster.

how to get full benefit from the Discussion Forums

The forum home page will all list the discussion topics that have been established. Some of these may be private in which case you will be encouraged to contact the topic administrator for access. You can enter any of the discussion groups by clicking on the title or you can click on the "sort by activity" link to see which topics have had contributions made to them since your last visit.

Once you've entered a discussion forum you can view the questions/comments that have been raised. You can browse only anwswerd questions, unanswered questions (if you want to answer them), or add comments/additions to answers.

At the bottom of the list of questions will be a link to the forum administrator as well as a link which allows you to edit your "email alerts". This is useful if you want to be informed of recent activity to that particular discussion forum. You can disable or enable this feature at anytime.

News and Events

This section is pretty intuitive as well. On the top level you'll see a listing of current/up-coming events. After each event listing is a "comment" link which will allow you to add comments about that particular news topic or event. You must be logged on to add a comment, else you will be redirected to do so. If you encounter a blank page when this happens, please reload the page.

At the very bottom of the News and Events listing you are provided with the opportunity to suggest a news item. You'll be asked to provide a title and body for the item, as well as start and end dates for when you want the item to be published.

ENJOY!!
