Alpha
(Shareware) Alpha is a powerful programmers editor that runs on Macintosh. It uses Tcl as its customization language and has many electric pencil modes. Including Tcl, C, HTML and many others. Does on the fly code styling, indentation, coloring, etc. Can save in Mac or Unix formats. "My favorite Tcl editor by far. Wish there was something like it on UNIX." says juesch@earthlink.net Edit (1999-09-04 00:00:00)
Alphatk
Alphatk is a text editor. It's most useful for programmers, those writing a lot of TeX or LaTeX documents, and for editing of HTML source files. It has very rich features to aid in writing and editing files of those document types. The programming languages strongly supported are C, C++, Java, TeX, HTML, Tcl, Perl, Matlab. Most other common languages are also supported, although perhaps not with quite such a rich feature set.

Features:

  • syntax colouring
  • auto-indentation
  • unlimited undo/redo
  • powerful search/replace facilities
  • communicates with version control software
  • diff/patch
  • spawn off tex, compile, tcl, javac, etc. processes and capture their output
  • runs on Windows, Unix (and some support for MacOS).
  • extensive documentation
  • transparently edit files over ftp, synchronise home-pages etc.

Alphatk is written entirely in Tcl, the scripting and gui language developed by John Ousterhout (now at www.scriptics.com). This means it is easily extendable, configurable etc. Most aspects of its behaviour can be configured using various 'Preferences' dialogs. If you can program in Tcl you can tweak it in any way you like. However it is designed to be used by people who cannot program in Tcl. Alphatk is a little like emacs, in that it is a very powerful text editor. However it was designed with a graphical interface in mind (for many years Alpha was a MacOS only product written in C. This is effectively a re-implementation of Alpha by emulating its inner functionality in plain Tcl). Edit (2000-08-15 09:37:13)

epcEdit SGML/XML editor
Owner/Maintainer Roman Halstenberg, Version 0.91 (beta), Works with 8.0
Download: www.tksgml.de

epcEdit is a full-featured SGML/XML editor, which makes extensive use of the TkSGML library included in the epcEdit package. The epcEdit package consists of:

  • the source code of epcEdit, which is written entirely in Tcl/Tk. If you have some programming experience, it will be easy for you to adapt epcEdit to your needs
  • the TkSGML widget library (binary) and documentation.

TkSGML is an SP-based SGML system that could best be described as a generic toolkit for building integrated SGML applications.

The core of the system is a Tcl/Tk widget that can be used to display and edit SGML/XML documents. The widget itself does not implement any kind of user interface, but leaves this task to Tcl scripts that are responsible for creating menus, providing window decorations, configuring the display styles, etc. It is (almost completely) backward compatible with the Tk text widget and provides the the same widget command interface and an additional set of instructions for SGML/XML-related operations (inserting elements, modifying attribute values, accessing element content, navigating the document tree, mapping from elements to screen/text postions or vice versa, ...).

The system currently runs on Windows 95/98/NT/2000, Linux (Intel), and Solaris (SPARC). Other Unixes will be added with Mac OS being a further option. The widget is implemented as a loadable Tcl extension (a DLL for Windows, a shared library for Unix systems) that requires Tcl/Tk 8.0 (already included in the distribution package).

ML Text Editor
This editor program is designed for editing tcl/tk source files, it can however edit any text file. I am writing this editor mainly because I wanted an editor which displayed a list of procedures in the file and provided the ability to go to them with the click of a button. Screen Shot.

The editor may take a few seconds to open a file as it does full syntax highlighting on start-up. Editing is quick and syntax highlighting is only processed on lines that change and text that is inserted.

Features:

  • Syntax Highlighting (tcl/tk).
  • Text Undo
  • Multiple Windows.
  • Procedure list with click to goto proc.
  • Right click on word for quick find.
  • Editor loads all files open since last exit & remembers "find" history.

Nedit 5.0
NEdit is a GUI style plain-text editor for X/Motif systems. It is very easy to use, especially for those familiar with the Macintosh or MS Windows style of interface. Finally a TCL editor on UNIX that operates like Alpha on the MAC! Most important for TCL programmers is Electric Pencil mode for TCL. Nedit does syntax highlighting and coloring and smart indentation. Nedits behavior is programmable via regular expression syntax. For example: Whenever you type or position your cursor next to a brackets, square or curly brace the editor blinks the counterpart if it exists. Edit (1999-08-19 00:00:00)
