Examplets from The Java Developers Almanac 1999Copyright 1999 Addison-Wesley"Examplets" are code snippets designed to illustrate a particular task using the smallest amount of code possible. Their main purpose is to show you which classes and members are involved in the described task and generally how they interact with each other. Blue italicized text in an examplet indicates the parts that should be replaced if you use it in your program. In some cases, an examplet may have sufficient detail for you to use directly; in other cases, you may have to look up the involved classes in another reference book for more information. The Almanac includes a comprehensive cross-reference of all the entire Java 2 Platform APIs which is useful for determining where a class or member comes from. The closest online resource for this task is the Java 2 Platform API index. If the code of an examplet throws a checked exception, the code is surrounded by a try/catch statement. However, to reduce space and distraction, the catch clause is left blank. Such catch clauses should always handle the exception in some way and should never be left blank. At the very least, you should include a call to e.printStackTrace() to display the exception on the console.
