DYNAMIC FRAMESETS

The following examples will highlight the functionality that the Dynamic Frameset JavaScript code provides. Please watch the URL in your client browser to better understand how to implement Dynamic Framesets. This code is provided free from Netscape for use on your website and is not a supported product.

Example 1:
Original Frameset
Document "Frame D" in every frame
Netscape's home page in frame D
Source Code for first example

Example 2:
Original Frameset - DevEdge Sample Code
Link directly to JavaScript section
Link directly to HTML section
Source Code for second example

Now try your own:
You can go to frame1 above and type in the letter of the frame you want to replace, followed by an '=' sign and the URL of the document to place in the frame. ?a=document1.html&b=document2.html, etc.

For example, enter the following URL:
http://developer.netscape.com/docs/examples/javascript/frames/index.html?d=http://home.netscape.com
(frame1 comes up with Netscape's homepage in frame D.)

What advantage does this code provide?
Until now you could only point to the top of a frameset instead of pointing to a sub-document within the frameset. By adding this code to your frameset you can point to any document within the frameset by properly coding your calling URL.

Does every frame have to be dynamic?
No, only the frames you code to be dynamic can be changed by altering the calling URL.
