Zend Interview
An interview with the developers of Zend. Zend is a scripting engine developed by Zeev Suraski and Andi Gutmans (hence the name Zend). Both are members of the core development team of PHP, and wrote large portions of PHP 3.0, including the language implementation and some of the popular modules like the MySQL, Sybase and PostgreSQL modules.

If you are an expirienced perl coder and
are just trolling, you'll stick with perl and you know why. Otherwise, php is easy to install (with apache), as easy to learn as perl and damn fast for smaller scripts.
I make my living writing perl for large cgi
apps but write php for my home site.
Typically, perl is overkill for the average
web page content like online shopping, etc.
As your experience and applications grow, you'll be able to use the eliquent features of perl and have the
skills to make it fast(can be a pain).
Both are free and you're an upstart?
Start with php until you know you need
perl.
