Mac OS X Java Runtime Environment

Mac OS X Public Beta includes Java 2. Benefits of Apple's Java implementation include the following:

  • Java 2 Standard Edition (JS2E)1.2.2
  • Hotspot 1.3 VM with the client compiler
  • Aquafied implementation of Swing
  • New JDirect native method access support
  • Native preemptive multitasking threads
  • Automatic multiprocessor support

One the greatest benefits of developing or deploying Java on Mac OS X is that Java automatically takes advantage of Multiprocessor G4's without you as the developer having to do any additional work. Please get the Mac OS X Public Beta and let us know what you think of our Java implementation.

QuickTime for Java
Mac OS X Public Beta includes QuickTime for Java 4.1. This set of cross-platform APIs allows Java developers to build multimedia, including streaming audio and video, into applications and applets.
