Mac finally prevailed in a tie-breaker, 6-4, 5-7, 0-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3), not the ideal preparation for a final against Borg scheduled to start less than 24 hours later. John McEnroe vs. Bjorn Borg John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg stage one of the greatest U.S. Open finals as the 21-year-old McEnroe fends off a Borg come-back to win his second consecutive title by a 7-6, 6-1, 6-7, 5-7, 6-4 margin.
