  • Brahma at Duke: A Linux-based Distributed Parallel Supercomputer
    Brahma is a Beowulf-class parallel supercomputer under continuous use and development in the Duke University Physics Department, but with several differences from the original Beowulf systems. Brahma consists of 32 (as of 2/4/99) systems interconnected with switched 100 BT ethernet. All but one or two of these systems are dual processor systems. Roughly half of the systems (mostly older dual Pentium Pro) sit on individual desktops at the same time that they participate in the parallel supercomputer and are fully available for numerical work. The rest of the systems (dual Pentium II) are headless and in a "dedicated" stack. All of the systems are more or less identical in their software configuration.
