The FreeSCI homepage

SCI, the "Sierra Creative Interpreter", was the second adventure game interpreter used by Sierra On-Line (Sierra On-Line is a registered trademark of Sierra On-Line, Inc.) after the AGI. The SCI was used on at least three platforms: MS-DOS, AmigaOS and Windows (SCIWin). However, these platforms aren't as popular as they used to be, and since Sierra never released the source codes to their SCI engine, the number of platforms these games can run on today is very limited.
Fortunately, most of the game logic was written in an abstract SCI language, compiled into SCI script bytecode (this is similar to the way Java works) and stored alongside with other game information, such as graphics or music, in the games' resource files.
The FreeSCI main executable runs those SCI scripts, and will run actual SCI games as well, once the remaining kernel functions have been implemented.
Please note that only support for SCI version 0.000.xxx is under active development at this time.
The FreeSCI source code is available under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL).

Magnus Reftel has released version 0.1.0 of the SCI toolchain, containing an SCI assembler, linker and nm-tool. The toolchain uses the Python interpreter; its source code is available under the terms of the GNU GPL.

The latest version of FreeSCI is 0.2.4, released on 99/08/17
