The platinum/silver car is immaculately restored and maintained and features leatherette interior, dealer-installed factory air conditioning, AM/FM cassette capacity, automatic transmission, and the model's original keys.

One (1) grand prize winner will be selected on or about December 1, 1999, and notified shortly thereafter.

1. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. MUST BE A LEGAL U.S. RESIDENT 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER WITH A VALID DRIVERS LICENSE. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.

2. To Enter: You may enter by visiting the Borders.com website at http://www.borders.com or by going directly to http://www.borders.com/mchapin and by following the instructions online for entry by 11:59 PM ET on November 23, 1999. You can also enter by completing an official entry form located on displays in participating Borders stores, or hand print your name, complete address, zip code, daytime phone number, and age on a 3" x 5" card and mail in a first class stamped envelope to: "The Mary Chapin CARpenter" Sweepstakes, P.O. Box 1065, Young America, MN 55594-1065, postmarked by November 24, 1999, for receipt by November 30, 1999. Limit of one entry per person per day via any method. No copies, facsimiles or mechanical reproductions of completed entry forms accepted. By participating, entrants agree to these Official Rules.

3. Drawing: Winners will be selected in a random drawing held on or about December 1, 1999, from among all eligible entries received by an independent judging agency, whose decisions are final and binding in all matters relating to this sweepstakes. Winners will be notified by phone or mail. Winners may not substitute, assign or transfer prize or redeem prize for cash but sponsor reserves the right to substitute prize with prize of comparable value, if advertised prize becomes unavailable. While there are approximately 187,500 off-line official entry forms available, odds of winning depend on number of eligible entries received.

4. Prize: Grand (1): Mary Chapin Carpenter's restored Vintage 1976 BMW 2002 Coupe, complete with automatic transmission, dealer-installed factory air conditioning, fog lights, AM/FM cassette, and original keys. The car is platinum silver colored with leatherette interior, and complete with maintenance records. Approximate Retail Value (ARV) $14,500. Any options or additions to the make and model of vehicle (except as are stated above) are at the sole expense of winner. The winner may be required to pick up the vehicle personally from a location within the 48 contiguous United States as selected by Sponsor, and may be required to present adequate personal identification (determined by Sponsor), a valid driver's license, and evidence of any legally required insurance. The winner shall be solely responsible for any taxes, license, title and/or registration fees and all costs associated with the vehicle, including any travel and transportation costs associated with picking up the vehicle, at Sponsor's discretion. The car will be transferred to the winner as is, with no warranties or representations of any nature whatsoever, including, without limitation, any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, and Sponsor and Mary Chapin Carpenter make no warranties (a) regarding condition of the vehicle at time winner takes possession and (b) that the vehicle can be sold, bartered, or traded at the stated value. The value fluctuates with market condition.

5. General Conditions: Employees and directors (and their immediate families and those living in their same households) of Sony Music Entertainment, Borders Group Inc., Borders.com, and any of their affiliates, subsidiaries, parents, advertising and promotion agencies are not eligible. Neither sponsor, Borders, Inc., Borders.com nor any of their agencies are responsible for illegible, lost, late, damaged, incomplete, postage-due or misdirected, stolen mail or entries, or for lost, interrupted or unavailable network, server, Internet Service Provider (ISP), website, or other connections, availability or accessibility, miscommunications, failed computer, telephone or cable transmissions, lines, or technical failure, jumbled, scrambled, delayed, or misdirected transmissions, computer hardware or software malfunctions, failures or difficulties, or other errors of any kind whether human, mechanical, electronic or network. Persons who tamper with or abuse any aspect of the sweepstakes, as solely determined by the Sponsor, will be disqualified, and sponsor reserves the right to terminate such entrant's eligibility. Should any portion of sweepstakes be, in sponsor's sole opinion, compromised by virus, worms, bugs, non-authorized human intervention or other causes which, in the sole opinion of the sponsor, corrupt or impair the administration, security, fairness or proper play of this sweepstakes, or submission of entries, sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to suspend or terminate the Internet portion of sweepstakes, and randomly select winner from entries received prior to action taken. In the event of a dispute regarding entries received from multiple users having the same email account, the authorized subscriber of the email account used to enter will be deemed to be the entrant and must comply with these rules. Authorized account subscriber is the natural person who is assigned the e-mail address by the Internet Service Provider (ISP), on-line service provider, or other organization responsible for assigning e-mail addresses.

Winner, by acceptance of prize, (a) agrees that Mary Chapin Carpenter, Sony Music Entertainment, Borders, Inc., Borders.com, their affiliate companies, parents, subsidiaries, participating retailers, advertising and promotion agencies, and all of their respective officers, directors, employees, representatives and agents are released and will be held harmless by winner from any and all liability, for any damages, injuries or losses to persons, including death, and property, arising directly or indirectly from the acceptance, possession, misuse or use of a prize or their participation in this sweepstakes or any sweepstakes related activity; and (b) grants, (and agrees to confirm such grant in writing) to Sponsor and those acting under Sponsor's authority the right to the use of their name, photograph, likeness, voice and biographical information for publicity and promotional purposes without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law. Prize winner will be required to sign and return an affidavit of eligibility and liability release and where lawful, a publicity release within five (5) days of notification. If documents are not returned timely, or if prize notification or prize is returned as non-deliverable, prize will be forfeited and an alternate winner selected. Taxes on prize are solely the responsibility of the winner.
