Rapid-Deployment Intranet Portal Goes Multi-Lingual

Planet-Intra.Com's support for 10 languages meets requirement for internationalization
The fact that the English language predominates on the World Wide Web is no excuse for parochialism on the part of international software makers. Recognizing this, a purveyor of both hosted and licensed intranet solutions is offering its Instant Intranet Portal in 10 languages, allowing users to create and rapidly deploy intranets in their own languages without custom programming. The portal solution, called Planet-Intra, is free for up to 10 users with low incremental pricing for additional seats.

Planet-Intra's language offerings include English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (traditional and simplified), Russian, Serbian-Cyrillic and Croatian. The vendor plans to add additional languages including Spanish and Italian in the near future.

"With Planet-Intra available in high demand languages, we extend the information sharing and collaboration benefits of an affordable instant intranet solution to more small and medium-size enterprises around the world," said Alan McMillan, CEO of Planet-Intra.Com. "Regardless of geographic location, Planet-Intra supports management's need to ensure information is shared among employees and throughout an extended enterprise, enabling increased productivity."

Natural interface

Planet-Intra will either detect the language of the user's browser or users can manually select a language from a list of icons. The intranet interface, as well as all guides and instructions will appear in the selected language. Additionally, a feature within Planet-Intra's search-engine that enables users to scan their Intranet knowledge base is available in the user's chosen language.

The core Planet-Intra product provides key intranet features such as content administration, a proprietary search engine and easy, no-programming Java publishing and editing tools.

The Planet-Intra software package runs on Windows NT and major Unix flavors, including Linux and Solaris. For more than 10 users, the hosted version is available for $2 per user per month, while the licensed version starts at $599.
