Hubs

Hubs are used to let you attach more devices to your iMac. A hub turns one open USB port into multiple ports, each being equally valuable!

Printers

This list contains both stand-alone USB printers and adapters that will make current printers work with the iMac.

Storage

Common storage devices are floppy disk drives, high-capacity hard drives, and removable drives. DVD-ROM and CD-ROM drives are also included in this list.

Optical/Video Input

Scanners and still-frame cameras frequent this list, along with digital video cameras.

Input Devices

Common input devices include mice, keyboards, joysticks, and and other game controllers.

Adapters

These are arguably the most useful devices for the iMac. They turn the iMac's USB ports into a different port type, such as ADB or serial.

PCI/PC USB Cards

These cards are for Macintoshes that don't already have USB capability. The PCI cards require a Macintosh with an open PCI slot, and the PC Cards are for PowerBooks with an open PC Card slot.

Cables

Although many devices come with their own cables, some manufacturers sell USB cables in case one is needed. Be careful to purchase the correct cable that the device requires; it is dangerous to use a low speed cable with a high speed device.
