Infoseek Quickseek is a free utility that allows users to add a live search box next to their Netscape Navigator directory buttons and search the Net instantly, without having to go to a search page. Infoseek also announced the availability of a new version of Quickseek (Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows 3.1 and PowerMac) that provides easy access to Infoseek Ultra, Infoseek's innovative new search technology. The new version also allows users to access Infoseek Ultra's image search capabilities provided by Interpix Software. The new versions of Infoseek Quickseek are available immediately on Infoseek's World Wide Web site (http://www.infoseek.com/). "The Introduction of Infoseek Quickseek for Windows 95/NT has received an overwhelming response from Internet users because of its efficiency and convenience," said Bill Rose, vice president of Advanced Development for Infoseek Corporation. "We received hundreds of requests from Windows 3.1 and PowerMac users and we're pleased to extend Infoseek Quickseek's power to these platforms." Infoseek Quickseek allows users to type a key word or question directly into the search box next to the directory buttons on their Netscape browser and get an immediate response to their query. This saves the user valuable time getting to the information they need by eliminating the need to click on the net search button and go to a search page. Infoseek Quickseek also adds an Infoseek button next to the search box. By right clicking on the button when using Windows, or clicking and holding when using a PowerMac, users can customize their search by selecting the World Wide Web, Infoseek Select Sites, Usenet News Groups, company directory, email addresses, timely news or Internet FAQs (frequently asked questions). The Infoseek button also gives users immediate access to other Infoseek services such as Infoseek Your News (free, personalized news service), Infoseek Fast Facts, and the NYNEX Big Yellow Directory. Infoseek Quickseek now also provides fast access to Infoseek Ultra, an innovative new search technology designed to provide users with the easiest, most efficient way to find information on the Internet and the World Wide Web. Infoseek Ultra offers a new approach to information retrieval that provides users unprecedented levels of accuracy, currency, comprehensiveness and speed. Internet users can also search for images on the Internet using Infoseek Quickseek. By right clicking on the Infoseek button, users can go directly to Interpix Software Corporation's Image Surfer, a new tool that utilizes both key words and categories as its search criteria while displaying search results as pictures. A link to the Interpix technology is also included from within Infoseek Ultra. Users can type in key words or pick a particularly image-rich category such as "Cars," "Supermodels" or "Animation." Pictures from Web sites within the corresponding choice are displayed as "thumbnail" images (i.e. smaller versions of the actual pictures that take seconds to download) which offer a preview of what is contained on each page. Clicking on a thumbnail image will automatically access the Web site where that image is located.
