| First off, let me state that this book
does not teach you how to use JDBC. What this book does
explore is the state of database technology in many of
the leading database platforms. The noticeably missing
platform is Oracle, which due to 8.1.4 scheduling reasons
will be covered in a subsequent Database Magic book. Having
been a database programmer in a past life, I found Ken's
book very informative. While I've been away from database
development, the technology has changed considerable.
What you'll find in Database Magic is what the
current capabilities are in various database platforms.
You'll learn partitioning tips about how best to
distribute system logic between client, middle, and
server tiers. You'll also see how some database vendors
permit developers to extend database products.
A good book for someone evaluating database
technologies, especially those with Java support IN the
database.
