Ed Zander
In January of 1998, Zander was promoted from his former position as President of Sun Microsystems Computer Company (SMCC) where he oversaw the multi-billion dollar network computing systems business with worldwide responsibility for all aspects of developing, manufacturing and marketing of SMCC products. Previously, Zander was President of SunSoft, Inc., where he led the company's efforts in developing and marketing SolarisTM, the UNIXTM industry's highest-volume licensed software environment for enterprise and network computing applications as well as the software backbone for much of today's Internet. He was also responsible for the company's network management, PC integration and software development product suites. Zander has more than 20 years of experience in the computer industry. He joined Sun Microsystems, Inc. in October 1987 as Vice President of Corporate Marketing, where he was responsible for the development of marketing, product and merchandising strategies worldwide for the company's hardware and software products and technologies. He was previously Vice President of Marketing for Apollo Computer, during which time he developed its marketing strategy for the emerging workstation industry. Before joining Apollo in 1982, Mr. Zander spent nine years at Data General, where he held several senior marketing management positions. Mr. Zander earned a B.S.E.E. from the Rennsselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, and an M.B.A. from Boston University. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Jason Foundation for Education, National Association of Manufacturers - Bay Area Council, Documentum, Inc. and the Science Advisory Board of RPI.
