JJC Hey! I just picked up my first copy of Linux-Mandrake 6.5. I got it installed, and I want to link to the Net, and control every aspect of my environment. I am a true Newbie, I do not know anything about Linux, and I want to know it all. I know all about all of the M$ stuff, and I am sick of it. I have BASIC and DOS experience, and I can pretty much navigate through everything, but I am a little lost on how everything works together. Does anyone know where I can find a concise list of Commands, and plain english translations? Also, like I said I want to control everything about my environment, so where can I start? What are some of the tweaks? Another question that I just thought of, are all applications for Linux (Linux-Mandrake) SMP capable? Thanks for the help in advance! JJ Remember, Linux--for IQs higher than 98.

Well the linux guide is a good place to start for
linux commands and docs http://www.firstlinux.com/guide/ Do all Linux apps parallelise ? Nope. Different threads/processes can run on different processors but if a program isn't designed to be run on multiple processors then you probably won't see much of a performance boost. It's probably true to say SMP really only useful if the system is multi-user. stevej
