linuxppc.org is the official home of the Linux/PPC project, the native port of Linux to the PowerPC processor. Linux/PPC runs natively on PCI-based Apple PowerMacs, many IBM & Motorola PReP and CHRP workstations, Amiga Power-UP systems and several embedded platforms including the Motorola MBX and RPX. The kernel supports multiple processors (SMP), which works on some Power Macs and certain IBM RS/6000 computers.
Initial Linux/PPC support for Rio 500 MP3 player
A group of developers have created free (GPL) software for Linux/PPC and x86 for the Rio 500 MP3 player. The source for the software is downloadable from http://download.sourceforge.net/rio500/rio500-v0.5.tgz. In order to utilize this package, you must be running a 2.3.x series kernel, with USB support compiled as modules or running 2.2.14 or higher with the 2.3.x series USB code backported to 2.2.14.

Linux/PPC Developer Reference Release 1.1 arrives
The Linux/PPC Developers have now released a major update to their Developers Reference Release. Version 1.1 now supports more machines and and peripherals.
The Linux/PPC Developers, a loose coalition of programmers, have developed the Reference Release as a basis for other PowerPC Linux distributions. This release is not intended for general use but as a set of common software to be used by Linux distributors as the basis of their PowerPC products.

Petition for QuickTime Player
Jan 29 2000: Sign the petition for Apple to port QuickTime Player to Linux! A Linux user at Georgia Tech decided it was time to ask.

Installing LinuxPPC on an AGP G4
Nelson Abramson recently wrote up instructions detailing what it takes to install LinuxPPC on an AGP G4 (aka Sawtooth). It should be noted that these directions are current as of 1/12/00, and the process will become much easier as work on these machines continues.
