Linux on PowerPC Developers Mail List

This is the Linux on PowerPC developers' mailing list. It is free and open to all those interested in development of Linux on PowerPC hardware but discussions should pertain to software development and not user support questions; that's what the linuxppc-user list is for. Patches are welcomed, but please refrain from posting execssively large ones (40K is currently the limit for the entire message). Large patches should be made available at an accessible FTP or web site and the URL posted to this list. The list owner reserves the right to implement filtering of list messages, unsubscribe offenders, and/or otherwise prevent posting of messages to enforce the list charter. A digest version of this list is available (see below).

In addition, the information and text published on this list and its derivatives (digests, archives, etc.) remain the property of the respective authors, who have, by the act of mailing said information and text to the list, granted permission to the list owner to publish it and any derivatives with the understanding that the list owner must not materially profit from such publications nor grant any subsidiary rights to the material. No one else may republish this list's material or its derivatives for anything other than "fair use" purposes without the express permission of each of the respective authors. Specifically, e-mail addresses may not be extracted and used for any commercial purposes.

 

Now for the useful stuff....

This list, along with the linuxppc-announce and linuxppc-user lists, replaces the now defunct linux-ppc and linux-pmac lists.

To post to the list, mail to linuxppc-dev@lists.linuxppc.org.

To subscribe to the linuxppc-dev list, mail a message of just the word subscribe in the body of the message to linuxppc-dev-request@lists.linuxppc.org.

To subscribe to the linuxppc-dev-digest list, mail a message of just the word subscribe in the body of the message to linuxppc-dev-digest-request@lists.linuxppc.org. Currently, digests are mailed once a day.

To switch subscriptions between lists or to change your subscribed address, you must unsubscribe from and subscribe to the appropriate lists, but that can be done on separate lines of the same e-mail message (see below).

To unsubscribe from either list, mail a message of just the word unsubscribe in the body of the message to the corresponding address above. If your subscribed address is different from your current e-mail address, you may specify the address following unsubscribe on the same line. If the mail list manager claims you are not subscribed to the list, perhaps you're subscribed to another list that redistributes the list. Examine the Received: headers of a message from the list to see if any of them indicate the address used to send the message or that the message was routed through another list. In addition, every few days a list message is sent with the envelope in the form:

From bouncefilter+linuxppc-dev=user=domain@lists.linuxppc.org

where user and domain are the address the message was sent to. If you can find that header, that's the address you need to unsubscribe. To protect the list's subscribers, it's not possible to retrieve the subscriber list or to match arbitrary text to list addresses.

Requests to the list server must be plain text messages without MIME, HTML, RTF, quoted-printable, base64, etc. encoding or attachments, vcards, etc. Multiple requests may be placed on separate lines of a single mail message, but each request must be contained on a single line, so turn off word wrapping in your mailer when composing request messages. Alternatively, you may manually end partial request lines with a backslash (\) character and continue them on the next line. Requests involving more than one mail list must include the list name after the request on the same line and should be mailed to majordomo@lists.linuxppc.org.
