Exchange Server 5.5 Service Pack 3
*

This service pack includes fixes to server issues that were previously available as Microsoft Quick Fix Engineering (QFE) patches, and also includes a limited number of feature enhancements and utilities. Service Pack 3 is a cumulative release that contains all of the updates for Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 to date. We recommend installing the service pack on all Exchange Server 5.5 servers.

Included in the service pack are the following new features, utilities, and enhancements:

  • Mailbox Manager Service. The mailbox manager service is used to enforce corporate e-mail retention policies. Administrators can configure the mailbox manager to delete messages based on criteria such as message age, message size, folder location, and server. The mailbox manager can be scheduled to run automatically at off-peak times.

  • Anti-Virus Interface. Provides an interface for third parties to use to plug in anti-virus software to scan for viruses such as the Melissa virus and the Worm virus. The interface hooks the attachment processing in the Exchange store.

  • MTA Mixer. Enables the creation of either algorithmic or configurable mappings between X.400 and SMTP addresses. It is useful to customers interested in relaying mail between X.400 and SMTP networks.
The Exchange Server 5.5 Service Pack 3 also contains:
  • Outlook 2000. Microsoft Outlook® 2000 combines the leading support for Internet standards-based messaging systems, including Exchange Server, with integrated calendar, contact, task, and Internet information management features. Find in-depth information and a multimedia demo of what's new in Outlook 2000 on the Outlook 2000 Web site.

  • Outlook for the Macintosh. This messaging and collaboration client has been enhanced to support text magnification, item drag and drop, the importing of contacts into a Personal Address Book, better handling of network outages, and read-access of Outlook for Microsoft Windows® calendar information. This client now runs on Mac OS 8.6.
Note: Microsoft Outlook 2000 and Outlook for the Macintosh are included in the CD version of Service Pack 3. However, they are not included in the version of Exchange Server 5.5 Service Pack 3 that is available for download from this site. If you are downloading the service pack, you can order Outlook 2000 separately.

This service pack also contains the following previously released tools for migration and coexistence:

  • Importer for Lotus cc:Mail Archives. This importer moves cc:Mail archive files to Exchange Server, automates the migration process from cc:Mail to Exchange Server, and resolves the addresses of authors as it converts messages.

  • Lotus Notes Connector. This connector provides a high fidelity messaging connection and directory synchronization between Exchange Server and Notes. It supports rich text, multilingual content, attachments, message status reports, priority and other message properties, and has added support for sending meeting requests between the two systems.

  • IBM OfficeVision/VM Connector. This connector provides a messaging connection between Exchange Server and IBM OfficeVision/VM and PROFS. In addition, the connector also supports the sending of files and notes to Exchange Server from IBM CMS, and has added support for sending meeting requests between the two systems.

  • SNADS Connector. This connector provides a messaging connection between Exchange Server and a variety of SNADS-compliant messaging systems including IBM OfficeVision/MVS, IBM OfficeVision/400, Verimation MEMO, Fischer International TAO, and H&W SYSM. It also has added directory synchronization between Exchange Server and OfficeVision/MVS and MEMO.

  • Exchange Calendar Connector. This connector enables the querying of free/busy information between Exchange Server and GroupWise, Notes, and OfficeVision/VM.

  • LDAP and IMAP Extractors for the Exchange Migration Wizard. This wizard enables the migration of account and e-mail content from other Internet-standard messaging systems.

  • Exchange Migration Wizard. This server-based utility makes it easy for administrators to migrate users of other mail systems to Exchange Server.

  • Language Packs. These language packs enable the server to display Outlook Web Access (OWA) templates in different languages.

  • Lotus cc:Mail Migration Directory Toolkit. This toolkit includes utilities that convert legacy cc:Mail directory information to Exchange Server.

  • Migration Connector for Novell GroupWise. This connector performs directory synchronization between Exchange Server and GroupWise.

  • Move Server Wizard. This wizard helps you move Exchange Server between new or existing sites and organizations.

  • Schedule+ (SC2) File Import Utility for Microsoft Outlook. This utility allows a Microsoft Outlook user to import Schedule+ data files into a Microsoft Outlook Calendar.
