The original Volcano Coffee site that ships with Site Server 3.0 Commerce Edition contains examples of shopper registration; price, cross-sell, and up-sell promotions; search; buy-now; navigation buttons; and manager pages. Now you can download three new versions of the Volcano Coffee sample site that provide enhanced performance: VC-Turbo, VC-Rocket, and VC-Warp.
The VC-Turbo Sample Site and Performance Kit (Perfkit.exe)
VC-Turbo builds on the original Volcano Coffee sample site by adding performance optimization to site design, pipeline design, database schema, database queries, object creation, and URL generation. The VC-Turbo Performance Kit includes the following:
- VC-Turbo sample site (Vcturbo.exe)
- Performance design, tuning, and capacity planning documentation
- Test scripts to measure the performance and capacity of the Volcano Coffee and VC-Turbo sites
- Readme file with instructions for installing VC-Turbo
The VC-Rocket Sample Site and Performance Kit (Vcrocket.exe)
The VC-Rocket sample site builds on the enhancements in VC-Turbo, adding performance optimizations resulting from pre-rendering database look-up pages. The VC-Rocket Performance Kit includes the following:
- VC-Rocket files that enhance the VC-Turbo site (Vcrocket.exe)
- Test scripts to measure the performance and capacity of the VC-Rocket site
- Readme file with instructions for converting VC-Turbo to VC-Rocket
The VC-Rocket download also includes documentation describing how to optimize Active Server Pages (ASP) performance with Site Server 3.0 Commerce Edition. This paper also provides an overview of ASP caching methodology and additional ASP design and coding considerations. It also compares the performance and capacity of the three sample sites, showing the return on investment for the performance techniques described.
Note: You must install VC-Turbo before you install VC-Rocket.
The VC-Warp Sample Site and Performance Kit (Vcwarp.exe)
The VC-Warp sample site builds on the enhancements in VC-Turbo, adding performance optimizations resulting from pre-rendering database look-up pages in ISAPI. The VC-Warp Performance Kit includes the following:
- VC-Warp source code that enhances the VC-Turbo site (Vcwarp.exe)
- Readme file with instructions for converting VC-Turbo to VC-Warp
The VC-Warp download also includes documentation describing how to optimize web performance by implementing a caching solution with ISAPI. This paper also provides an overview of ISAPI caching methodology and performance improvement resulting from replacement of ASP pages with HTML pages. It also compares the performance and capacity of all the Volcano Coffee sample sites, showing the return on investment for the performance techniques described.
Note: You must install VC-Turbo and VC-Rocket before you install VC-Warp.
