Microsoft FrontPage 98 Server Extensions: Versions History

Microsoft Corporation

Determining Microsoft FrontPage® 98 Server Extensions Version Numbers

To determine the version number of the FrontPage Server Extensions on a particular Web server, open the Web with the FrontPage Explorer and click the Tools | Web Settings command.   On the Configuration tab, check the FrontPage Server Extensions Version field.

On Microsoft Windows®-based servers, the version number can also be obtained from the FrontPage Server Administrator application.

On UNIX servers the version number can be obtained by running /usr/local/frontpage/currentversion/exes/_vti_bin/shtml.exe -version.

Versions History for Windows-Based FrontPage 98 Server Extensions
Version Number:  3.0.2.1706

Release Date:  5/26/98

Released to Office Update Web site.

Description
This update fixes a problem which followed any Daylight Savings Time changes, in which the Modified Time displayed in the FrontPage Explorer was incorrect, and the Modified By information unavailable.

With this update, the root level of a Web or virtual server, rather than the global server setting, is checked to detect the anonymous account name. Also, the Server Extensions now fully support the "Enable Automatic Password Synchronization" checkbox on servers running IIS 4.0.

An updated fpcount.exe has been included in these Server Extensions to prevent a denial of service attack using invalid arguments.

This update also corrects an issue where a potential server lockup could occur if a Web hosted on a multi-processor server running any version of IIS had multiple users authoring simultaneously.

For more information about this update please refer to the Web page.

Version Number:  3.0.2.1330

Release Date:  2/20/98

Released to Office Update Web site.

Description:
This update prevents ASP or server-side script code from being exposed to the end-user when the script code and a run-time component are placed on the same page (a combination of technologies that isn't supported) or when someone passes the script through the SHTML.DLL file.

This update also corrects sorting and table of contents issues with Discussion Webs, and addresses an issue with disk-based webs that are published to a server that supports the FrontPage Server Extensions.

This update also includes the previously addressed issue of support for multi-hosting configurations with the FrontPage 98 Server Extensions running on O’Reilly Web site and Web site Pro on Windows.

For more information about this update please refer to the Server Extensions Update v. 1706  Web page.

Version Number: 3.0.2.1313

Release Date: 2/11/98

Released to Office Update Web site.

Description:
This update supports multi-hosting configurations with the FrontPage 98 Server Extensions running on O’Reilly Web site and Web site Pro on Windows. Single hosted server support worked before version 3.0.2.1313, but multi-hosted sites did not.

On IIS 4.0, the version 3.0.2.1313 Server Extensions are changed to create individual application roots by default for each FrontPage Web or subweb. These application roots are used to mark the FrontPage Extension DLLs as in-process applications.  Before this change the IIS 4.0 global setting InProcessISAPIApps was used to run the FrontPage Extension DLLs in-process, which is a small security risk if users are allowed to upload and execute their own ISAPI DLLs.

For more information on this update please refer to Server Extensions Update v. 1313.
