Huard wins Acclaim Sports' Challenge

ORLANDO, Fla. (Aug. 2, 1999) — The Seattle Seahawks' Brock Huard defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Shaun King in a battle of quarterbacks to capture the second annual Acclaim Sports Video Game Challenge at the NFL Players Rookie Premiere.

Playing as the Pittsburgh Steelers in Acclaim Sports award-winning NFL Quarterback Club video game on the Nintendo 64, Huard rallied from a 1-point deficit and scored the winning touchdown with 11 seconds left to defeat King's Denver Broncos 36-29 and drove off with the grand prize, a one-year lease of a BMW Z-3 convertible.

"Shaun defeated his other opponents with big comebacks, but this time his luck ran out," Huard said. "I look forward to a rematch on the real gridiron some time in the future."

"That was the most realistic football video game I've ever played," King commented. "It makes you feel like you're right on the field."

The second annual Acclaim Sports Video Game Challenge was part of four days of activities which will be featured in an hour-long NFL Players Rookie Premiere television special scheduled to begin airing August 10 on Fox Sports Net. The event and the show were produced by PLAYERS INC., the licensing and marketing subsidiary of the NFL Players Association, along with Kestrel Communications. Twenty-five rookies participated in the Acclaim Sports Video Game Challenge, including top picks such as Edgerrin James of the Indianapolis Colts and Daunte Culpepper of the Minnesota Vikings.

"By sponsoring the nationally televised Acclaim Sports Video Game Challenge, we further extend our brand recognition to consumers," said Mike Jerchower, Acclaim Sports senior marketing manager. "It also gives us access to top NFL rookies who can be incorporated into our NFL Quarterback Club 2000 marketing program."
