Because of the unprecedented interest in our on-line story submission site, Zoetrope: All- Story has now opened a new on-line submission site exclusively for novellas, works that are under 90 pages. We are considering an issue that will focus on the novella form, featuring essays on it and a classic reprint. Our criteria for novellas will be the same criteria used to select short stories: rich plots, intriguing characters, interesting settings and beautiful writing. In addition to providing an experimental workshop for writers interested in submitting their novellas and evaluating other submissions, we will feature classic novellas on-line. Our first featured classic is: The Call of the Wild by Jack London.
I hope to share my interest in the novella format by providing this workshop as a forum to encourage others to explore it. The site is designed to enrich the writer's experience by being able to exchange philosophies, critiques, and ideas on what works and what doesn't.

We consider submissions of novellas of under 90 pages (approximately 24,000 words, maximum.) Screenplays, treatments, and excerpts from larger works are not accepted. For each novella that you submit we ask that you read and review 2 novellas submitted by other writers, and write one three sentence precis of one of them. The novellas you submit will in turn be read and reviewed by others. Regardless of whether your work is accepted for publication, you will receive the benefit of seeing your work rated and discussed by writers from all over the world.
If you would like to participate, fill out our Join page, then come back here to enter the site. We'll guide you through the rest.
