Godzilla: The Series

One final look at the game before its release next month. And yes, we have it in Quicktime format!

October 29, 1999

After having brought Warner Brother's Men in Black to Game Boy Color, Crave is now turning to yet another popular animated TV franchise -- Fox's Godzilla: The Series.

Developed by Crawfish Interactive, the team behind Acclaim's Bust-A-Move 4, Godzilla: The Series follows the adventures of Japan's best-known reptile as he protects human existence from mutated monsters that have invaded Earth.

Features

  • Based on animated TV show of the same name.
  • Seven different scenarios.
  • Use all of Godzilla's trademark attacks.
  • Compatible with both Game Boy and Game Boy Color.
  • Includes one exclusive level for Game Boy Color.

The Game
Crave's side-scrolling monster fest puts players in control of the giant lizard, stomping his way through seven different game scenarios, including volcanic islands, underwater trenches and the port of New York. Since the whole world is out to stop the misunderstood creature Godzilla will be able to perform a large amount of attacks to stop his attackers in their tracks. Next to clawing, biting and tail-whipping, Godzilla can unleash his infamous flame blast to blow up the army of tanks and helicopters sent after him.

Some stages will also require Godzilla to get his feet wet and wade through rivers and harbor canals, where aquatic mine layers, giant squids and "cyber dolphins" are lurking to ambush the player.

But the game's most promising feature is probably Godzilla's ability to transform and grow larger during gameplay. As the creature gains experience with every enemy encounter, he will also grow in size, creating the most fearless and formidable creature man has ever known. As a matter of fact, when he is fully grown, good old "Gojira" will stand as tall as the Game Boy's whole screen. The programmers at Crawfish Interactive will have to do some tight programming to push around such a big sprite without slowdown or flicker.

Godzilla: The Series is slated to ship this November and will be compatible with Game Boy Color, Game Boy, Pocket Game Boy and Super Game Boy.
