For some reason only known to Sony (but it has to do with costs), the company redesigned the PlayStation a few years ago -- and removed the standard Stereo A/V jacks from the rear of the PlayStation. It wouldn't have been a big deal, but at the time this happened, Namco released Time Crisis and the GunCon lightgun, which needed to plug into the Video plug in the back of the system. With the new configuration, an adaptor had to be purchased. Thankfully, Sony's not the only one producing the thing.

The PSX AV-Adaptor is simply a Nyko-made clone of the PlayStation AV adaptor, but since it's not licensed, it's cheaper (no licensing fees). This little unit plugs into any PlayStation's Multi-AV adaptor port, and enables PlayStation owners to plug standard Male-Male RCA cables into the back of the system -- just like old times. You can now plug the GunCon into the back of the PlayStation, the way it was meant to be attached. And, because the unit has a Multi-AV pass-through, another AV device can be plugged into the PSX AV-Adaptor.

Yes, it's an unlicensed peripheral, but we've haven't seen any signal degration using it. And since it's cheaper, there's no reason why you shouldn't choose this adaptor over the Sony-made brand -- unless you're a Sony junkie and need the official name slapped over it.
