This little section of the computer page is about operating systems. I have assembled some links to the software manufactures that wrote these operating systems, just click the images to go to their web sites. I have had more experience with some than others. I think I can find my way around in most of them. Some of these operating systems I have had the experience of installing, and administrating for as well.

Why I like LINUX

Operating Systems are like a religion to some. To me, each serves a purpose, each has it's own benefits. I have my preferences, I use LINUX when given a choice for x86 operating systems, and use what I have available to get the job done when I use other hardware. I do use Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows NT at work frequently, because I do not have much choice in that matter.

You can do a lot if you choose the right Operating System for the right job, and you waste a lot of time TRYING to get a job done if you choose the wrong one. If you really want to know what I prefer, and under want conditions, email me. Wanna know a real shocker? I used at least 4 OS's to create this very web page! (OK, I admit, I was flying some remotely, ftp, telnet, etc...) I have been using SuSE 5.1 for the last few months, and am fairly happy with it, but I may use Debian when version 2.1 comes out (I got some info from developers that they are going to package some applications I really want). But I think right now I am going to switch back to Red Hat, and use thier version 5.1 to get full use of some applications I want that are libc6 based.

I have recently helping with a section about the Linux Standard Base (LSB) Proposal on Freshmeat (one of the coolest LINUX sites around). What I am currently doing is scheduling "guest editorials" from some of the biggest names in the LINUX community.
