Advanced HTML, Tables and Forms
This seminar presents an advanced survey of HTML, with a focus on the forms feature which interacts with CGI (Common Gateway Interface). We will look at how to make use of HTML forms laid out with tables, processed by CGI scripts and programs, to connect these forms to databases ranging from very simple tabular searches through to more complex relational databases.
Advanced HTML: Forms
Forms add the dimension of interactivity, that bring the Web to life. HTML pages can be glitzy and glamourous, but without forms, they are "read-only". Forms let the user write back to you with comments, or specify database search criteria, or select from a host of alternates.
Advanced HTML: Tables
Tables are the major new addition of HTML 3.0. They have been eagerly anticipated by many, not only for the desirable capability of organising tabular data such as statistics by row and column, but especially for the feature of laying out any elements of the HTML language. Probably the major single example of this, is forms layout.
