It wasn't caused by the Dark Side of the Force. Actually, it's a pretty positive thing, but something had to happen.
A few months ago, internet.com Corporation bought the entire MyDesktop.com family of sites, one of which was Webpedia. The problem was that we already owned a site called Webopedia.com (which is an online dictionary and search engine for computer and Internet technology terms). A little too confusing for comfort!
The happy solution was that the philosophy and audience of the Webpedia site seemed to match those of WebDeveloper.com; pretty much the biggest philosophical difference was that our design is vertical on the page and theirs was more horizontal.
After an infamous after-hours arm-wrestling contest conducted in the most disreputable section of Toronto we could find (the donuts were stale, but other than that everything was fine), it was agreed that WebDeveloper.com would find good homes for all the fine articles, tutorials, and columns that the Webpedia editors and authors had written over the years.
We've integrated many of these already (look for the hand on the category index pages, such as the one for CGI/Perl). WebDeveloper.com regulars will recognize the new content immediately, while we hope Webpedia visitors will have a dandy time browsing all the WebDeveloper.com content that may be new to them. And Peter Cooper, the Editor-in-Chief of Webpedia, will be staying on as Associate Editor of WebDeveloper.com and continuing to get new content for all of us. Welcome!!!

Since the start of 1999, Webpedia has had an urge to expand quickly, and this is all part of the master-plan. The joint WebDeveloper.com and Webpedia (collectively called WebDeveloper.com) will now be able to provide you with more up-to-date and regular articles on all of the usual topics, and some more besides. Both WebDeveloper.com and Webpedia have had similarly long histories and are similar in many ways, so we thought we'd take the best of both sites and produce one site to which you can refer for all of your Web development needs.
We hope you enjoy the new WebDeveloper.com and we also hope you will have no problems in getting accustomed to the new site, it's really good! And never fear, you'll still see me moving around and replying to your e-mails. If you have any problems, don't hesitate to e-mail me on pcooper@internet.com.
