6. RELAUNCHED SITE: Internet Product Watch Make Over
Beauty is more than skin deep at IPW, it goes right down to the
database. Not only can users and manufacturers (and their reps)
submit Internet products, but our tireless Ann Arbor IPW team can
now make site-wide changes in a jiffy. I-ware is important news,
and the new IPW will deliver more of that news faster than ever
before. Hats off to Bob Peyser and Dan Ragle for their fine work.
Try out our new newly revamped IPW and let us know what you think!

7. INTERVIEW: THX Digital Dude
Occasionally we'll get a submission to Cool Central that's both
very cool and relevant to Web developers. xdude.com is such a site.
The brainchild of Jody Hatten, otherwise known as "THX Digital Dude,"
xdude.com is a feast for the eyes and ears, and is fun to watch.
The site shows what you can do with flash, lots of time, and an
imagination.
We were so impressed with the site, that we interviewed Jody about
it. Note, xdude.com is not associated with THX, a subdivision of
Lucasfilm, Inc.
Andy: "Tell me about the site, and what inspired you to do this."
Dude: "The Flashed version of my Web page more or less started as a
project to teach myself how to use Flash for my last job. Watching
a Flashed Web site was the newest, most exciting thing I'd ever seen
on the Internet. I couldn't BELIEVE my eyes (and ears)! It then
became my intention to maintain the same level of awe and excitement
to make learning FUN.
Basically, I'm trying to help people learn new things and re-evaluate
their beliefs about life, the world, and the way it works. Making it
FUN is the most important aspect of all, when it comes to learning.
By utilizing well thought-out and clear design, and balancing
genuinely interesting information with a little humor is my recipe
for teaching people of all ages over the Internet.
I started my Web page about a year ago (with no previous Internet
experience) to teach people some of the terms that were floating
around the computer scene, specifically with regards to sound on
computers. Later, I'd learn new and amazing things I thought had
to be made known around the world. What better way to communicate to
the World than the Internet?
Like the Internet itself, the 'THX Digital Dude's Digitally Remastered
Homepage' evolved into the 'Knowledge Emporium' it is today. One of
my many life's philosophies: 'If you're not learning, you're not growing.
If you're not growing, you're not living.' As a result, I'm always
pushing myself to learn new things. The site that exists today will
continue to expand."
I have a feeling Jody will have plenty of work in the future. Bravo!

8. SCUTTLEBUTT: Record Domain Price
With business.com going for a reported $150K and other prime one-
word domain names going for more, one wonders what the record is?
$500,000, according to a reliable source. It seems a certain
party shelled out this princely sum for a prime three-letter
domain name that the owner was using for his company. The names
are being withheld at my source's request. To my knowledge, this
price is a record for a domain name. What have you heard?
(Addendum: Some helpful users have written in since press time with
higher prices paid for domain names. So I vastly underestimated the
maximum price paid for a domain name. We'll report on these next time. - ABK)
