Components Workflow in GoLive

Adobe GoLive 4.x lets you add dynamic components to documents. When you update a component, documents to which you've added the component (host documents) dynamically reflect the changes to the component. This lets you modify an element that appears repeatedly in your site (such as a header or footer) without having to modify each host document.

If you use CyberObjects or Actions (e.g., a Button Image rollover or a Set Image URL action) in components in GoLive 4.0, you must configure all components and all host documents that use the component to use GoLive's external JavaScript library (CSScriptLib.js). (GoLive 4.0.1 automatically configures components and host documents to use GoLive's external JavaScript library once the components and host documents have been opened and modified in GoLive 4.0.1).

Note: Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.x doesn't support external JavaScript libraries: It returns an error or displays JavaScript code in its browser window when you try to view a GoLive document that references the external JavaScript library. For more information, see Related Records.

You can configure new components and host documents with one preference setting change. You'll need to configure existing components and host documents manually to use the external JavaScript library. If you don't configure components and host documents to use the external JavaScript library, your CyberObjects or Actions may not function properly in a Web browser.

To configure new components and host documents to use the external JavaScript library:
1. Choose Edit > Preferences
2. Select the LiveObjects icon in the left column.
3. Select Import CSScriptLib.
4. Click OK.

To configure existing components to use the external JavaScript library:
1. Open a component document.
2. Select the document's page icon beneath the Layout tab.
3. In the Page Inspector, click the HTML tab, then click Component.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 for each component document in your site.

Note: It is important that you modify existing component files before you modify the host documents that use them. If you modify the host documents first, GoLive might not write the paths to the external JavaScript library correctly.

To configure existing host documents to use the external JavaScript library:
1. Open the host document.
2. Select the document's page icon beneath the Layout tab.
3. In the Page Inspector, click the HTML tab, then click Component.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 for each host document in your site.

Note: Although GoLive lets you remove HTML tags from your pages, you should not remove tags from components and host documents. Components and host documents that don't have all their HTML tags may not work as expected when you view them in a browser. You can verify that all HTML tags are written in a component or host document in the HTML tab of the Page Inspector -- be sure the <HTML>, <HEAD>, <TITLE>, and <BODY> checkboxes are all selected.
