Peter Schultz from BeForever sent us an announcement regarding his new Mascot contest. He is soliciting submissions from artists in the BeOS community for both mascot submissions and also contributions to the purse (to be awarded to the winner). For more information click 'More' or visit BeForever
Update: The original story did not make it clear that this is a BeOS mascot contest, not a BeForever mascot contest. We apologize for the confusion.
| | BeDepot will be closing soon, and that has left some question as to where we can get "BeGear", and what the system will be for use of the BeOS logo. There has also been much discussion as to the possibility of a BeOS mascot. For instance, *BSD has Darby the daemon and Linux has Tux the penguin. These mascots, while certainly not a necesary part of computing, give developers and users something
fun to play with. From the usual t-shirts, caps, and stuffed animals, to the integral part of a web site design, or box and book cover art, these mascots provide an identity to the operating system.
What I'm proposing here is the design of a BeOS mascot which will be usable by anyone in any way. I need to hear from you if you are serious developer of BeOS software and you're interested in using this mascot. The reason I ask is because I'm hoping that you'll help in judging the winner. You're the ones who will depend on the mascot as an overall positive identifier for BeOS and your BeOS software. Not only that, but you may want to sweeten the deal with a prize. And as far as prizes go, even if you're just an interested user, there's no reason you can't help
increase the purse.
You certainly may begin working on your submission, but please keep in mind that it's got to be very well done and easily put into use in a wide variety of ways. Also, please e-mail me if you're working on a submission so we can talk more.
Please help me spread the word about this and feel free to discuss any other points you feel are important to fairly and reasonably accomplishing this.
Thanks,
Pete...
