The Pokemon frenzy is just getting into full swing, and over in Japan a few thousand anxious kids finally got a hold of the next big games -- Pokemon Gold and Silver. We managed to grab them in the frenzy at the import store (the owner says she sold around 50 copies to kids who could barely read English, much less Japanese) and captured some screenshots for you.
What's so special about the new games? Well, for one, the colors are much prettier. Aside from the visual quality, there are (get ready for this) 100 new Pokemon! The games open just like the originals, with the player in control of a nameless hero who desires to become a Pokemon Master. Professor Oak lets him choose from three different Pokemon (all different) and the journey begins.
Since our understanding of Japanese is limited (I'm still working on it), we don't have much more information. However, to tide you over until we can have a full review by our resident Japanese-speaking editor Max Everingham, here are 20 screenshots of the first few minutes of the game (taken from Pokemon Silver). Enjoy!
