News Flash: Its finally ready! Our tips collection for MacOSX, Darwin and WebObjects is going strong. You can find it here. You're probably here because you saw one of our announcements that we're going to be offering a cd-rom of the Darwin distribution and decided to check us out. Well, its true, we are going to be offering a cd-rom of the Darwin distribution, and a lot more. You see, we're a collaboration between the team at Infomagic (experts in Linux software), and the team at TwinForces (experts in WebObjects/OpenStep). So our goal is to integrate all that "missing stuff" that you can get from a Linux distribution, but that didn't come with Mac OS X Server. Things like firewall software, DHCP, SAMBA, DNS, SSL, SSH, POP, IMAP etc. To that end, we're working on a framework that will let you compile software from the BSD and Linux distributions with almost no changes. As a tip of the hat to Darwin, we're calling this cd-rom The Missing Link. We have big plans for this site as well. We plan on making this site a clearing house for all sorts of Darwin and Mac OS X Server information. Our goal is to build a community of Darwin users so that Darwin becomes one of the best free unix distributions around. That means that we have to create a site where users can get not just software, but help and information as well. So we're creating collaboration software in WebObjects that will support that community. When we're done, you'll be able to find and submit tips on: using Mac OSX server, configuring your system, using NetInfo, porting Linux software, and a host of other categories. Then as we and other people port software to the Darwin platform, we'll place it up here for you to download, sorted into categories, with version information, a description, and ratings from other users. When you download a file from our site, not only will you get the software, but you'll also get tips for configuring and using the software. Too busy to spend lots of time browsing a web site for new information? No problem, we're short on time as well. So our collaboration software will automatically notify you of updates to any product or tip category if you choose. While not all the features are complete, you can already browse and submit tips by going to the application here: MissingLink We've also placed a few files in our anonymous ftp directory for you to use. ftp.darwinlinux.com If you think you will be interested in getting a MissingLink CD-ROM, please register using the preliminary version of our site software so we can gauge interest in our MissingLink product.
