What is Roxen Challenger?
Roxen Challenger is an open source web server, developed by
Idonex, Sweden, and a big
community of Roxen users on the net. It runs
on most UNIX platforms as well as on Windows NT and offers
all required features of a modern web server.
- Strong 128bit-encryption with SSL
- FTP server
- Proxy server
- Multithreaded
- CGI/FastCGI support
- Database APIs (MySQL, Postgres and commercial databases)
The big difference
to other popular servers like Apache is its modularity and its
rich set of useful tools. Roxen Challenger comes with a web based
configuration interface which makes it easy to set up virtual
servers and control their behaviour. It is easily possible to
access databases to create dynamic content for your documents.
On-the-fly creation of graphical text, thumbnails and diagrams is another
strength.
Roxen Challenger is written in Pike, an
interpreted object-oriented programming language with a C-like syntax.
You can embed Pike code into your documents to create dynamic
content. If you already have used PHP you will realize that this is
a mighty feature.
The main advantage of Roxen Challenger is to reduce the total cost
of ownership (TCO) of your website. It's not difficult to create a website
with a constant layout and maintenance is very easy. The separation
of layout and content will let you share the entire work between
designers and authors.
