Zend Interview An interview with the developers of Zend. Zend is a scripting engine developed by Zeev Suraski and Andi Gutmans (hence the name Zend). Both are members of the core development team of PHP, and wrote large portions of PHP 3.0, including the language implementation and some of the popular modules like the MySQL, Sybase and PostgreSQL modules.

Well I've seen programs written in c that are "slow", any programming language is only as good as the person using it.. You can code slow stuff in any language :-)
Personally I've been able to do impressive things with a MySQL database, PHP3 and a P133 FreeBSD box..
