I downloaded the bundle to my Win98 comp and followed the directions. I installed the .ini and ran the GO.BAT it worked fine..... Then I tried the http://localhost thing and it asked me if I wanted to connect (I was offline). I said no and it gave me a 404 error...... Then I created a .php file and saved it to the www directory and tried to open it with IE. No can do.... What did I do wrong?? Thanks, ------------------ |

Do you have a server installed such as Apache? |

Did you unzip the file to C:/phpdev/ ?it needs to be there for the config to work as is - You may need to disconnect from the net and then close and restart IExplorer, Another possible problem is your proxy settings - in IE - go to 'tools' - 'internet options' - choose the 'connections tab' - click the 'LAN settings' button - click the 'advanced' button. If that works the try clicking on the first of the 2 files there (index.php3) you should then see the results of phpinfo() - if you do its all running. Rod - Hartman is referring to the PHP4/Apache/MySQL/phpMyAdmin bundled zip - at http://www.firepages.com.au/news.php3 - it extracts to C: and should run straight off on win9* and poss' 2k machines without any configuration - I could never get Apache to work on my machine - someone kindly sent me this zip - so as it worked so well for me I put it up for download. ------------------ [This message has been edited by firepages (edited July 11, 2000).] |

Hi again FirePages! I did what you said about the Proxy Server..... It gave me an error message that said "The settings for the proxy server you've chosen aer blank. This prevents access to the Internet. Do you want to turn off the proxy connection?" OOPS.... Thanks, ------------------ |

depends, maybe you do not use a proxy server in which case you should not need to do anything anyway - mmm - go back to 'tools' - 'internet options' - choose the 'connections tab' this time click the 'settings' button, a screen comes up there will be a box called 'proxy settings' - if this is blank or greyed out you do not have a proxy server and this is not your problem - if it has text in it - something like 'proxy.x.server.com' or similar - click the 'advanced' tab, in this screen - ## at the very bottom ## there is a box called 'exceptions' - in here type http://localhost - and ok - apply etc otherwise I am not sure what the problem could be - the bundle is designed to run straight off - with no configuration - It worked 1st time for me - which is good as I know nothing about configuring Apache etc. Do you have PWS installed? - I have heard that that can be a problem - I have Omnihttpd but that still works without giving Apache any problems - & vice versa. Try again and let me know. ------------------ |

The bundle has PHP / Apache / MySQL /phpMyAdmin in it , they all unzip to the same directory - MySQL should work on 95. I am getting feedback of about 50/50 installs/does not ! - all on windows95/98 for the bundle - unfortunately I have not a clue why some work & some do not! ------------------ |
