Spin Around Town: Volkswagen New Beetle
Like the Mazda Miata, Volkswagen New Beetles suffer slightly from a "chick car" image in the minds of mental midgets. Despite the revived Bug's ability to generate interest across age, gender and social boundaries, lots of guys think it's a girly car, mostly because it's cute and underpowered, just like a Miata. And never mind that even when equipped with the standard 2.0-liter gasoline engine and an automatic transmission, the New Beetle is a hoot to cruise around town, for no other reason than the intense interest it can generate. First Drive: 2000 Ford Taurus

Enter the redesigned 2000 Ford Taurus, with an all-new look and an all-new direction. For the first time since its introduction, Taurus has traded-in its trend-setting styling mantle for a cutting-edge safety theme, following in the footsteps of the old Ford marketing campaign of the 1950s. More importantly, Ford engineers also chased improvements in such areas as interior roominess and comfort, trunk space, driveline performance, and ride and handling, as well as build quality and durability. Spin Around Town: 1999 Chrysler LHS

Well, turn that frown upside down because the Great American Boat is with us once again. Chrysler's LHS Sedan, which made its first appearance on the previous LH platform in 1994, was completely redesigned for 1999 and has emerged with a near-perfect mix of classic luxury-car elements. Full Article

BMW expands its U.S. Production and Sales Facility
In 1992 BMW officially announced its plans to construct a plant in upstate South Carolina. Over the next three years, the company invested $1.2 billion to create its first manufacturing site outside of Germany. The plant, located on a 1,039-acre site near Spartanburg, set several precedents, including the first automobile factory in the United States to export the majority of its production and the fastest manufacturing start-up time from plant construction to vehicle production.

1999 GMC Sierra - updated October 27, 1999
While our Sierra did take a quick jaunt to Carlsbad, Calif., it spent most of its time this month moving commandingly through gridlocked Los Angeles. L.A. is not rural Ohio, and as such, our Sierra continued to make strong impressions on our drivers as well as the motoring public around us. . Full Article
