Surrounded by desert, the Guadalupe Moutnains rise above the desolate terrain. Established in 1972 with over 86,000 acres, this park features limestone fossil reefs, mountain peaks and canyons. At 8,749 feet, Guadalupe Peak is the highest point in Texas.

Free backcountry camping permits are required and must be obtained in person from the Headquarters Visitor Center or the Dog Canyon Ranch on the day of or the day before they are to be used.
