eParka is proud to introduce ParkaMap Technology exclusively
to the eParka.com website. Here we describe how you can use this
free software to view activities, trail profiles and interactive
maps. Click here to view
the ParkaMap FrontPage.
We also have large edited USGS
Topo maps for taking along with you on the trip! This interactive
software has two purposes: 1. To provide interactive maps using Java and
2. To create static map images and elevation profiles for activities on
our site.
Interactive Maps using Java
The diagram in the upper left highlights the features of the interactive mapping software. Here is a description of each of the functions:
- Direction Buttons - Used to move the map north, east, west or south. North is always straight up.
- Legend Button - Display map legend.
- Reload Map Button - Reload all the maps, if they are not drawn correctly.
- Zoom Out Button - Zoom out to the default zoom level.
- Mouse Action Controls - Determines what happens when you click the left mouse button over the map.
- Zoom In - Zoom in and center map.
- Point Info - Gives information about the object closest to the mouse pointer.
- Distances - Highlights and gives the distance of the nearest trail segment.
- Elev. and Lat/Long - Displays the elevation and the latitude and longitude, if available.
- Label Display Control - When one of these boxes are checked, labels of that type are displayed on the map.
- Elevation Selector - Toggles the background color to the elevation at that pointt.
- Contour Selector - Selects how the contour lines of the topographical map are displayed: 1000 ft, 600 ft, 400 ft, 200 ft or off.
- Status Bar - Displays any messages the software may display.
There are two ways to view java maps: through a park or place and in an activity with
the PM (Parka Map) icon. In an activity, click on the interactive map link or the
static map image described below. To view the maps from a park, click on the park map image, and the mapping software will open showing that region of the park!
Static Maps Generated By ParkaMap Technology
On the left is the smaller of the two types of static maps accessible using
our software. These maps are generated by our staff and are intended as
a good reference of an activity. Also, we have trail profiles as shown below.
The trail profile allows you to see what the terrain of an activity is like.
