Martyr's
3855 North Lincoln Ave.
Chicago, IL 60618

21+
9pm
tix available thru ticketmaster.com and Ticketmaster outlets for $15
show is general admission
opener: Sarah Slean

Martyr's is on Lincoln Ave., just south of Irving Park Road. Want directions? Easy: If you're at O'Hare, travel I-90 east (which is actually south) to Irving Park Road, take a left at the *second* light off the exit. Drive several miles to a big 6-way intersection (Irving Park, Lincoln, and Damen). Damen is at 2000 west, so you can follow the addresses. Make a 135-degree right turn onto Lincoln (not a 90-degree right onto Damen). Martyr's is a few blocks down on the left, 3800-something.

Martyr's is south and west of the Riviera, but both are within a few miles of each other on the North Side.

Easiest directions to get there: from the Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94) take the Addison exit east. Drive several miles east on Addison. Take a hard left turn after going under the railroad tracks onto N. Lincoln. Martyrs will be about 2 1/2 blocks northbound, on the right hand side.

From Ticketmaster:

Directions
From I-94, exit at Addison and head east to Lincoln Avenue. Turn left on
Lincoln and head north for 3 blocks. The club is on the right side (east
side) of the street. From Lake Shore Drive, exit at Belmont and head west to
Lincoln Avenue. Turn right on Lincoln and head north for about one mile. The
club is on the right side (east side) of the street.

From Chad Schrock:

First of all, don't come down 95. It's a waste of time and money.

From Wilmington and north:
  - That being said, take 95 south to Deleware.
  - Exit at Deleware 1 South, towards Christiana
  - Follow 1 until you get to US40
  - Exit on US40 west[2]
  - Drive for about 2 miles or so. Sit at al the traffic lights.
  - Turn left on to Del 896, to Annapolis/Bay Bridge
  - Follow 896 until it turns into US301
  - Follow 301 for about 10 miles until you get into Maryland
  - In Maryland 301 turns into a divided highway. For the next
40 miles you are going to drive by farms and trees and the
    occasional critter.
  - US301 will merge into US50 and you will be on a freeway until
    you get to Annapolis.
  - Go over the Kent Narrows. Welcome to Kent Island.
  - After a few more miles, you will go over the Bay Bridge.
Do try and maintain speed, though.
  - Go over the Severn River (the next bridge)

Once you get to Annapolis:
  - Exit at Exit 29/MD 70/Rowe Blvd, Annapolis. (Not the exit
    for Bestgate Road.)
  - Follow Rowe Blvd. over a bridge, through a stop light, past
the District Court bldg and stadium (both on the right),
through another stop light, and over a second bridge.
  - Bear to the right immedeately after the bridge onto
Calvert Street. If you bump into the State House, you
didn't bear right, did you? [3]
  - At the light, the road bears to the left again. You want
to keep going right. (And stay on Calvert.) If you bump
into the church, you didn't keep going right, did you? [4]
  - At the next real light[5] is West Street, and the Ram's
Head is just off to the left on the other side of West Street.
(It's a bit hard to miss.)
  - Look for the FrüHeads.

PARKING:
  - You can park on West Street somewhere[6]
  - There are garages on both sides of Calvert Street as you
drive towards West Street. (Only the one on the right
is open 24 hours, I think, though. Always read the fine print.)
  - If you turn around and take Calvert back out to Rowe Blvd,
go straight at the light and there are two parking lots.
Both are for state employees during the day. After hours,
they are open to the public.

Coming down 301, you will save $6.50 in tolls and about an
extra 90 minutes in travel time round trip.[7]

When you go home, there is a $2.50 toll to go back across the
Bay Bridge.

How long does this miracle trip take, you ask? It takes me
almost exactly 2 hours to go from the Painted Bride in Old
Phila-something to my doorstep, off of exit 29 on US50.
(Keep a watchful eye out for State troopers on 301 in MD, but
I usually set my cruise control to about 70ish and enjoy the
really quiet trip.)

Wednesday, May 3, 2000
The Birchmere
3901 Mount Vernon Avenue
Alexandria, VA
703-549-7500
Directions (thanks to Zard): Take 95 south until the 95/495 split south of Baltimore (closer to DC). 495 should be toward College Park, while 95 will say Richmond. Take 495 - it's a right exit, and you just stay all the way right until you merge onto the Beltway (495). Follow that all the way around to Virginia (you'll cross a big bridge over the Potomac), stay right, and take the first exit in Virginia - George Washington Parkway. Stay right. (Don't take any parkway exits until you're actually in Virginia.) Follow the Parkway quite a ways - you'll come near DC, you'll have the river on your left, go past Rosslyn, Key Bridge exit, and then soon you'll see monuments, etc. on your left, and then you'll see a sign for 395 south, a right exit. Take it and merge onto 395 south. Lanes appear and disappear, so stay kind of central, and then shortly thereafter you'll see an exit for Shirlington/Glebe Road. Stay right as you take the exit - it breaks into two, and you want Glebe Road, which'll be the right lane. BUT, then get in the left lane, since you want to take a left at the light at the end of the exit. That puts you on Glebe Road east/south. Stay in the left lane. At the first light, the road bends to the left - follow it. You go through another light, and at the 3rd light (Mount Vernon Ave.) take a right. Go through 3 more lights, and just after the big "Parts USA" on the left, you'll see "Birchmere Entrance" and a parking lot - all on your left. There you are!!
