The Feedback FAQ (Please read before sending mail!)
Looking for help on a game? Need codes? Want a FAQ?
Then please be patient. GameFAQs posts new FAQs and codes as soon as it receives them. GameFAQs does not respond to any mail requesting help for games, so please don't send mail asking for help. However, the GameFAQs Requests board is exactly what you need.

Want to advertise on GameFAQs?
All GameFAQs advertising is handled through Snowball.com. Get in touch with their advertising department for more information.

Is there really just one person running this site?
Yes. I see you noticed the first-person voice on the front page.

Who?
Jeff "CJayC" Veasey.

How do you do it?
Caffiene and a love of video and computer gaming.

Are you hiring?
No.

How do I contribute to GameFAQs?
You can learn how to write a FAQ and submit FAQs, codes, and reviews all in GameFAQs' Contribute section.

What does GameFAQs run on?
As of May 5, 2000, the main web server (www.gamefaqs.com) is a custom-built 2X400MHz PII, and the interactive server (cgi.gamefaqs.com) is a Dell PowerEdge 2X600MHz PIII. Both boxes run Internet Information Server 4.0 under Windows NT 4.0. The cgi.gamefaqs.com server uses Sybase SQL Anywhere as its back-end databse. All other coding (message boards, poll, search engine) is custom-written for GameFAQs and not available for public use.

I submitted a Review. Why didn't you post it?
Reviews that don't get posted usually fall into one of these categories:

  • Under 300 Words
  • Oversaturation
Once there are over 10 reviews for a game, the selection process becomes very strict. Once there are over 20 reviews, you can count on it not being posted.
  • Language Skills
If your review isn't understandable or contains horribly poor grammar and spelling, it won't be posted. Reviews without line breaks are very hard to read as well. Likewise, if you're unable to properly express yourself without the use of four-letter words, you will remain unpublished here.

I submitted a FAQ. Why didn't you post it?
This one's tough. It's hard to draw the line between keeping a quality site online and discouraging new authors from even trying to submit files. For what it's worth, the some of the main reasons that FAQs don't get posted are:

  • Low Quality/Low Content
Examples: Files with no or little information, or incomprehensible text and/or layout. Also, very short tips don't get posted here, so if you've got a good short gaming tip but not quite enough to make a FAQ, try submitting it to GameSages instead; they love that kind of stuff.
  • Formatting
Examples: Proportional-width fonts, HTML files, and word processor features that don't translate to ASCII text. If you write a FAQ using Word or Works, make sure you read the Author's Guide so you'll know exactly the best way to do it.
  • Oversaturation
Example: If there are already 10 walkthroughs for a game and you submit another one, it will be judged much more harshly than the first one received. FAQs for games that do not have them are much more valued than yet another Zelda walkthrough. Other games that have been done to death include Pokemon, Final Fantasy 1-8, and Smash Brothers.
  • Incompleteness
Example: If there are already one or more full walkthroughs or FAQs for a game and you send in one that covers the first ten minutes of gameplay, it probably won't be posted except for brand new games. On the other hand, if there are no FAQs for a game and you've got a very short guide to help people get started, it will proably go up very quickly.
Don't forget: Read the Author's Guide! It's got lots of information and pointers on how to write a good FAQ. Follow all the guidelines, and your FAQ will almost assuredly get posted. If you want to write a FAQ that will almost assuredly get posted, check the Requested FAQs list.

I submitted a FAQ that was posted. How do I update it?
Just submit it a second time (see the FAQ Submission Guide for more information). As long as it's clear that it's an update to a previously posted FAQ (i.e. by the same author, for the same game), GameFAQs can take care of the rest. In fact, GameFAQs encourages you to update your FAQ as many times as you'd like! If you can, naming your FAQ identically to the name of the file as it is posted on GameFAQs is a great help.

Why don't you guys have a FAQ for (insert game here)?
Because nobody's written one yet. Be patient, and someone probably will. If you can't wait that long, make your own! If you want to let us know just how bad you need that FAQ, use the Requests board!

Can I link to GameFAQs?
You may link to any page that ends in ".html" or ".asp", but not to individual FAQs. You may also use the small or large GameFAQs banners at your leisure, so long as they are used to in a link to the site.

Will you link to my site?
No.

Will you e-mail me a FAQ?
No.

My company is starting this hip new gaming network. Will you be one of our affilliates?
No.

My company is buying up web sites right and left. Are you selling yours?
No.

I've contributed to GameFAQs, so how do I get me one of those Recognition pages?
Just ask. Send an e-mail to the standard GameFAQs address, letting me know your name, e-mail, and web page (if you have one). I usually already know what you've contributed, but if I've got you listed under different aliases, let me know that as well. Keep in mind that it may take me several days (or weeks) to actually get your page up, as I'm always backlogged in mail.

I'm having problems browsing the site. Will you fix it?
Sending an e-mail that says that one of the pages "don't work" doesn't really provide any information. If you are reporting an error, please let me know your browser version and operating system, along with the URL of the page you just came from as well as the URL of the page with the actual problem. The more detail you can provide, the better the chances of me tracking down the problem.

Okay, I've read all of the above, and I think my e-mail is worthy of your attention. How do I actually contact GameFAQs?
First of all, let me restate, ANY MAIL ASKING FOR HELP ON GAMES WILL BE DELETED. See this web site? Use it. Can't find a FAQ? Use the Search Engine. Still can't find it? Use the Request Board. Need help now? Use the Message Boards.

Now, many of GameFAQs' features actually have come about from visitors making suggestions, so feel free to let your voice be heard. Constructive criticism is always appreciated, and every single piece of e-mail gets read (although very few can be replied to). If you're really serious about sending an e-mail, keep in mind that GameFAQs is owned, operated, and maintained by one person (with the contributions of thousands of other helpful souls, of course), so it may take a week or more for a response. The first order of business on the site is always getting the latest FAQs up, and everything else comes second.
