GNU/Linux RPMs

Several GNU/Linux distributions use the Red Hat Package Manager (RPM) as their basic tool to build and maintain the packages coming with the distribution. The most prominent ones are Red Hat and SuSE. Providing GNAT and GNAT based software packages in RPM format makes it a lot easier for GNU/Linux Administrators or Workstation Users to install and use GNU Ada.

These RPMs should be installable also on other RPM based GNU/Linux distributions and they even should run there. We have users reporting successful installs on these distributions:

  • Mandrake 6.1 and Mandrake 7.0
  • Caldera Open Linux 2.3

We have several sets of RPMs available.

GNAT 3.12p for glibc-2.1 systems (Red Hat 6.x/SuSE 6.{2-4}) These RPMs were built on an SuSE 6.4 system with glibc2.1 installed. They run also on Red Hat 6.x; they will not run on older releases of SuSE or Red Hat.

GNAT 3.12p for glibc-2.0 Systems (Red Hat 5.x/SuSE 6.{0,1}) These RPMs were built on an Red Hat 5.1 system with glibc2.0 installed. They are tested also on Red Hat 6.0 and SuSE 6.2 (glibc2.1 systems), but they don't use all the features of a glibc-2.1 based system.

RPMs for GNAT 3.11p are still available. We will drop support for them in the near future.

You don't have administrator rights on your Linux Workstation? No problem, you still can install our RPMs! Look at these Macros for GNAT RPMs for a solution.

Most of the binary RPMs are for Intel architecture only. For GNAT 3.11p you'll find also RPMs for the PowerPC architecture.
